8. Unbecoming The Princess: Religion, Shame & Control

Unbecoming The Princess : My Journey Beyond the Mold  Chapter Eight: Religion, Shame & Control I used to think that my deepest fears and quietest guilts were entirely my own creation. I thought I was just inherently flawed, carrying a heavy invisible burden that I had somehow manufactured inside my own mind. It was a profound and shattering realization to discover that much of that weight wasn't mine to begin with. When religion is stripped of its spiritual essence and twisted into a system of behavioral management, it stops being a sanctuary and quietly transforms into a machinery of control. Unbecoming the Princess: My Journey Beyond the Mold

Chapter Five: When Safety Becomes a Trap

For the longest time, I thought safety was a physical place I could finally reach—four thick walls, a predictable routine, and a life completely devoid of unexpected turns or sudden risks. I spent years wrapping myself in layers of comfort, believing that if I stayed small enough, quiet enough, and compliant enough, nothing could ever hurt me.

It took me a long, painful realization to discover that the very safety I had meticulously built around myself had quietly morphed into a cage.

What I once called security was nothing more than stagnation disguised as peace. I had traded my aliveness, my curiosity, and my growth for a guaranteed absence of discomfort. Every time I chose the familiar, predictable path just to avoid the anxiety of the unknown, I was locking another bolt on a prison door built from my own fears.

Safety became a trap because it asked me to abandon myself. It demanded that I silence my inner voice, ignore the quiet urgings of my soul, and stay frozen in a version of life that no longer fit who I was becoming.

I had to learn how to break the glass. I had to accept that true peace is never found in a sterile, risk-free vacuum, but in the courageous willingness to step out into the open air—fully awake, fully vulnerable, and entirely alive.
